What Building Automation Can Do
Building automation provides several advantages for residents, investors, builders and professionals involved. Check out in this article what building automation can do.
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)
Through a building automation system, it is possible to have full control, remotely, of all energy monitors in the building or residence, through the Internet, incorporating a simple and friendly user interface, such as a cell phone, PC or tablet.
Lighting control
In a modern building automation system, an “intelligent” network incorporates communication between various inputs and outputs of the lighting system, using one or more central computing devices (server). So it is possible to control from an interface, like a tablet for example, the activation and deactivation of the lights of the building, house or apartment in the blink of an eye.
Control system with occupancy recognition
It is possible to detect the occupancy of the house using smart meters and modern environmental sensors, such as CO2 sensors, which can be integrated into the building automation system to trigger automatic responses for energy efficiency and the construction of comfort and safety applications.
Control of home appliances and integration with the electrical grid
A modern building automation system, such as KNX, offers a wide range of smart devices capable of interconnecting and automatically providing data on the internal network of the house or building. For example, a smart meter can harness the high power of the solar panel in the middle of the day to supply and operate the home’s washing machines.
Home robots and advanced security
In a home security system integrated with a modern home automation system, it is possible to provide additional services such as remote surveillance of security cameras over the Internet or access control and central locking of all perimeter doors and windows in case of an emergency.
Other interesting features
Building automation can do much more for its residents, among which we highlight:
- Leak detection, smoke and CO2 detectors
- Clothes folding machines and self-packing beds (automatically)
- Internal Positioning Systems (IPS)
- Home automation for the elderly and disabled
- Pet and baby care, e.g. tracking pet and baby movements and controlling pet access locations
- Air quality control (inside and outside)
- Smart kitchen, with fridge stock control, pre-made cooking programs, cooking surveillance, etc.
